"Hrvoje Požar" award ceremony held
On Friday, July 5, 2024, the 29th annual awards ceremony of the "Hrvoje Požar" Foundation of the Croatian Energy Society was held in the festive setting of the Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The annual award is given for significant professional and scientific activity in the development of energy, for the realized project of rational energy management and innovation and popularization of science, and to energy students for excellent success in their studies and for a particularly notable graduate thesis. The award is named after academician Hrvoje Požar, the secretary general of the Academy from 1978 to 1991.
At the very beginning of the ceremony, the president of HAZU, academician Velimir Neidhardt, gave a welcome speech in which he reminded everyone present of the importance of Hrvoje Požar's work and his key role in the development of energy science and politics in the hope that his ideas will continue to inspire future generations. The president of the Croatian Energy Society, Ivan Andročec, Assoc.Ph.D., also spoke at the ceremony, together with the recent president Ivica Toljan, Ph.D. who also presented the prizes to the winners. Ms. Snježana Požar, daughter of Mr. Hrvoje Požar, also attended the ceremony.
Prof. Eraldo Banovac, Ph.D. was awarded for his significant professional and scientific activity in the development of energy. As prominent Croatian scientist and professor, he is known for his work in the fields of energy and technical sciences. Through numerous activities, he is not only contributing to the science, but is also inspiring new generations of experts in the field of energy.
The prize for the popularization of energy went to Mihovil Bogoslav Matković, professor, communication specialist, public relations consultant, lecturer, publicist, editor and spokesperson who, in his long career, worked in many different positions and contributed to the popularization of energy with his efforts and creativity.
For innovations in the field of energy, the award went to the company Dok-ing d.o.o., a company specializing in the development and production of high-tech robotic systems for special purposes that has developed into one of the global leaders in its segments, with recognizable innovations and technologies that are used around the world. Among numerous innovations, this time for the Looper plant, the director and founder, Mr. Vjekoslav Majetić, accepted the award on behalf of the company. At the same time, it was congratulated to Mrs. Danica Maljković, Ph.D. at the recent election as a member of the Board of Directors of Hydrogen Europe.
The company Fortenova Group d.d. was awarded for the realized project of rational energy management and improvement of environmental quality related to energy facilities. The company places special emphasis on sustainable development as a key part of its business strategy. Sustainability is integrated into all aspects of its business, from production and logistics to retail and social responsibility, which ultimately led to a reduction in total energy consumption through cooperation with the Hrvoje Požar Energy Institute. The award was accepted on behalf of the company by Mr. Fabris Peruško, chief executive officer and member of the Board of Directors.
The award for outstanding success in studying energy and energy studies in the final year of undergraduate and graduate university studies went to Tamara Trogrlić. As a student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Zagreb, she inspires colleagues around her with her work, effort and dedication, and during her graduate studies she had excellent grades with an average grade of 4,714, which is the highest average grade on the Power Engineering Profile.
Filip Grebenar was awarded for a particularly notable graduate thesis in the field of energy, entitled "Model of the participation of solar power plants and hydrogen plants in the electricity market". He demonstrated through his work an exceptional ability to quickly acquire and connect knowledge from the fields of energy, mathematics, computing and machine learning, and an exceptional ability to research and analyze. The work is also, according to many, one of the best quality works in the last few years.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of guests from the world of energy - experts, scientists, industry representatives, as well as numerous distinguished guests from the academic community.
The traditional award ceremony of the Hrvoje Požar Foundation emphasized the importance of education and innovation in the energy sector and provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience. With the presence of numerous experts and leaders, this ceremony further strengthened the connection and cooperation within the energy community.
